PINELLAS COUNTY – On Wednesday, April 13, 2022, Pinellas County Law Enforcement will pass the Special Olympics torch through the county.

The Torch Run draws attention to the many athletic programs available for people with developmental disabilities. The Special Olympics torch will be passed to various Pinellas law enforcement agencies along the course, while runners will carry the torch from St. Petersburg to Clearwater. Runners will carry the torch to the final destination at the outstanding Paul B. Stephens School where they will be greeted with a student reception.

The Torch Run route and start times are listed below. Media are encouraged to attend and meet the runners at any of the assembly locations.

If the event is canceled due to inclement or hazardous weather conditions, no rainy days are expected.

During the race, traffic may be affected for a brief period as law enforcement officers block roads and stop traffic at various intersections.

Relay times and locations:

To start up: 8:15 a.m.Saint Petersburg Police Department
Directions: (4.2 miles) 1st Ave. N, to US Hwy. 19, to 38th Ave. N., then right to the two bus circles before New Heights Elementary.

To start up: 9:10 a.m.New Heights Elementary School
Directions: (4 miles) US Highway. 19, to 70th Ave. N., then west to Nina Harris Reception.

To start up: 10:15 a.m.Nina Harris Outstanding School
Road: (3.5 miles) 70th Ave. N. to 66th Street, then north to 118th Ave., then east to Morgan Fitzgerald Student Reception.

To start up: 10:55Morgan Fitzgerald College
Directions: (3.2 miles) 118th Ave to 62nd St, then to 126th Ave, then under US 19 to service road, east on Ulmerton Rd., to at 49th Street and 145th Avenue, the PCSO Technical Services Building.

To start up: 11:45 a.m.PCSO technical services building.
Road: (4.5 miles) North on 49th Street, over the Bayside Bridge to the Eddie C. Moore Softball Complex on Drew Street.

To start up: 12:45 p.m.. – Eddie C. Moore Softball Complex
Directions: (3.5 km) north on McMullen Booth, then west on Sunset Pt. to Paul B. Stephens School and finish.

Arrival: Around 1:15-1:30 p.m., arrival of the torch/reception of students at Paul B. Stephens.
