3-year law course receives 85,000 applications for 17,000 places

The deadline for applying for the state Common Entrance Test (CET) exams for various professional courses is June 22. However, this year there is stiff competition for admission to law school.

According to information provided by the state CET cell, for the three-year LLB course, so far 84,768 applications have been received for 17,000 places.

In recent years, there has been a huge demand for law courses, especially the three-year LLB course. There are several job opportunities in the private sector outside of regular legal practice or government jobs. While many people choose to take admission as an additional qualification for their career advancement.

“Legal studies have become a multidisciplinary education system. Students therefore choose it as a main career option rather than an additional subject or optional studies. As the number of applications increased this year, the struggle would be tough and only students with good CET grades could be admitted,” said Kranti Deshmukh, Principal of Shankarao Chavan Law College.

    Ex-housekeeper blackmails Khar couple with private photos, reserved

    Mumbai A Khar-based couple have contacted the police after their ex-housekeeper tried to extort money using photographs of their intimate moments. Police officials said Ziyabuddin Abdul Aziz robbed his employer’s home six years ago and stole the photographs along with valuables and used the photographs to blackmail the couple. The couple, who reside in Khar West, have two children. The family owns a hospital.

    Ludhiana: A man sentenced to life for the murder of a neighbor

    Three years after an elderly man was shot dead in the village of Noorwala, Extra Sessions Court Judge KK Goyal on Wednesday sentenced his 36-year-old neighbor Jagdev Singh to life imprisonment. The convict’s wife, Kamaljeet Kaur, who was the co-defendant in the case, was acquitted of all charges by the court. Her father was shot and rushed to Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) where he died while undergoing treatment.

    Army Jawaan killed in clash of kanwarias

    The last rites of army jawan Kartik Singh were performed in his hometown, Sisauli, on Tuesday evening in the presence of members of the armed forces. Kartik was killed in a clash between two groups of kanwarias near the town of Manglaur in Roorkee in the Hardwar district on Monday night. Kartik sustained a head injury in the clash and died of excessive bleeding. Kartik arrived home on Sunday, asking permission from the army to bring Kanwar.
