Coal smuggling case: West Bengal Justice Minister Malay Ghatak was summoned by the Delhi Law Enforcement Branch in connection with the coal smuggling scam on September 14.

The Law Enforcement (ED) Directorate has now summoned West Bengal Justice Minister Malay Ghatak in connection with the coal smuggling scam in the state to his office in New Delhi on September 14.

Trinamool Congress National General Secretary Abhiskek Banerjee is due to attend the ED office in Kolkata on September 2 to be questioned about the scam. His sister-in-law, Maneka Gambhir, is expected to be present at the agency’s office in Kolkata on September 5.

ED sources said this is not the first time Ghatak has been summoned by them in connection with the charcoal smuggling scam. “This year, he had been summoned twice in February. But he dodged this summons on the pretext of the Covid-19 situation. Now it remains to be seen what he does this time,” an official said. of the ED.

However, he added, if he also dodges the summons this time, senior agency officials will consider drastic action against him. Ghatak could not be reached for comment because his mobile phone was unreachable.
