Joseph P. Costa and David B. Nathan announced a merger of their legal practices to expand elder law services in central New Jersey. The scope of their practice includes Medicaid planning and Medicaid applications, wills and trusts, estate planning and estate administration, guardianships and veterans benefits.

Their main office is in Matawan.

According to the US Department of Health and Human Services, the number of New Jersey residents age 65 or older increased by 24% between 2008 and 2018, and that percentage will increase as baby boomers age.

“Planning in times of uncertainty can be complicated and overwhelming for seniors and their families. Our job is to simplify the process by asking the right questions and providing simple advice without the frills or legalese. Effective communication and accurate information are keys to understanding your options and rights,” Costa said.

Among the services provided by the company, compiling and pursuing Medicaid applications in the state of New Jersey is a focus. According to Costa, “Medicaid is a highly regulated process and requires us to interact and coordinate with a number of entities, both private and public, health and financial, all with their own competing interests and policies.” Nathan emphasized, “Navigating this landscape while caring for a family member or loved one is a daunting task. A lot of mistakes tend to happen early in the process, so being proactive in finding the right person or company to represent you can make all the difference.
