Georgian law enforcement professionals participated in the DV course at ILEA


October 24-28, 2022, with support from the International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Section (INL) of the U.S. Embassy Tbilisi and the International Law Enforcement Academy (ILEA) in Budapest, Hungary, a group of Georgian law enforcement professionals from the Ministry of Interior and the Attorney General’s Office of Georgia, completed a week-long course on domestic violence and sexist at ILEA.

The 5-day course was delivered by Illinois State Police officials and focused on the investigation of crimes related to domestic violence, sexual assault, and physical and sexual abuse, including the social, legal and cultural aspects of sexual and gender-based violence. Law enforcement professionals from Moldova, Albania and the Kyrgyz Republic also attended the training and Georgian professionals had the opportunity to discuss challenges and share best practices not only with representatives of law enforcement agencies of the United States but also of the aforementioned countries.

The U.S. Embassy INL Section will continue to work with the Georgian government to enhance the abilities of Georgian law enforcement professionals to effectively investigate and prosecute crimes of domestic and gender-based violence in Georgia.
