Lawyer Gobinda Bandi, non-legislator, appointed Minister of Justice – myRepublica


KATHMANDU, April 7: Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has appointed lawyer Gobinda Prasad Sharma (Koirala), popularly known as Gobinda Bandi, as the new Minister of Justice.

According to the president’s office, Bandi has been appointed cabinet minister for law, justice and parliamentary affairs. He will replace outgoing justice minister Dilendra Prasad Badu.

Bandi had played a significant role in getting the MCC grant agreement approved by parliament. He was one of the advocates involved in preparing the interpretative statement to help approve the grant agreement.

Not being a deputy, Bandi can only be a minister for six months. He must be a member of the Federal Parliament in order to continue as a minister.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Deuba reshuffled the responsibility of Minister Badu who was given responsibility for the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supply, which had been vacant for months.

A senior ruling alliance official said Prime Minister Deuba was preparing to reshuffle his cabinet. The leader said Prime Minister Deuba wants to keep the Ministry of Finance with NC keeping in mind the possible financial crisis in the country. “The prime minister is looking for a new finance minister who can coordinate closely with the Nepal Rastra Bank to help prevent the country from plunging into a financial crisis,” the leader said.
