Man arrested after hours of clash in Coushatta

COUSHATTA, La. (KSLA) – Crews from multiple law enforcement agencies in northeast Louisiana responded to the scene of a standoff in Coushatta on the morning of Friday, January 14.

According to Coushatta Police, the incident began around 11:30 a.m. at a house in Ashland Road. The house is near the elementary school, however, the class is not in session.

Officials say a gunman, Valere DeWayne Fraizer, was inside the home.

The confrontation continued for several hours, until Fraizer was arrested around 2:30 p.m. According to Mayor Johnny Cox, he was found in the attic of the house after police used tear gas to drag him out.

Officials say one of the charges he is wanted on is the recent shooting of a Natchitoches Parish sheriff’s deputy.

The CPD, Red River Parish Sheriff’s Office, Louisiana State Police and BCPD Special Operations and USMS Violent Offender Task Force responded to the incident.
