Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Minister of Law and Human Rights, Yasonna Hamonangan Laoly, has received the Kaanib ng Bayan, or Ally of the Nation, award from the President of the Philippines, Rodrigo Duterte.

“I congratulate Mr. Yasonna Laoly on the award he has received,” Mindanao Development Authority Chairman Emmanuel Piñol said in a written statement on Monday.

“I really appreciate the support given to the Filipino community in Indonesia,” he said.

Kaanib ng Bayan is an award given by the government of the Philippines to individuals and organizations outside the country for their significant or outstanding contributions to Filipino citizens or the community abroad.

“We praised your efforts as a brother in ASEAN. I guarantee you that in the future we will reward you for your kindness like what you did for our brothers there,” he said. points out.

Piñol also praised the policy implemented by Laoly, especially regarding immigration, which is supposed to provide protection and assistance to Filipino citizens in Indonesia during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In line with this statement, Philippine Minister of Communication Martin Andanar expressed his gratitude to Laoly for his humanistic immigration policy during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The pandemic has made life difficult for them. Thanks to Minister Laoly’s compassion and understanding, their period of stay has been granted and extended,” he noted.

According to Andanar, the Philippines and Indonesia are really there for each other when needed.

“ASEAN has given us the space to collaborate and show our solidarity,” he noted.

ASEAN member countries have a safe haven for refugees in the event of unseen, unsuspected and uncontrollable events, such as COVID-19.

“I thank Minister Yasonna Laoly and the government and people of Indonesia,” Andanar remarked.

Besides Laoly, the other recipients of the Kaanib ng Bayan award are Issa Mohammad Ahmad from Jordan, Montero Medical Missions from the United States and Philippine Bayanihan Society-Singapore and Temasek Foundation, Ltd., both from Singapore.
