Odisha Assembly Speaker urges Justice Minister to investigate missing communication – Reuters

BHUBANESWAR: Odisha Assembly Speaker Surjya Narayan Patro on Tuesday asked Union Law and Justice Minister Kiren Rijiju to order a departmental investigation into how incorrect information had been provided on the question of the establishment of the Legislative Council in the State.

The president told the media that two letters had again been sent to the Center on the matter. A letter has been sent to the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha secretariats with details of the resolution passed at the Odisha Assembly on September 18, 2018.

Patro said he wrote the second letter to the Minister of Justice. “I have written to Rijiju, mentioning that the Odisha Assembly on September 18, 2018 passed a resolution for the establishment of a Legislative Council in the State and the same was communicated to the Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha, Ministry of Union Parliamentary Affairs and Union Law and Ministry of Justice,” he added.

In his letter to the minister, Patro said his ministry officers probably did not brief him properly, which led him to state to Rajya Sabha that his ministry was unaware of the Odisha proposal. . “I suggested that he order a departmental investigation to determine responsibility,” he added.

Patro said the Assembly resolution on the creation of the Legislative Council was sent to the Center in 2018 with a request to enact a law in this regard. The Assembly resolution was also submitted to the Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha and relevant ministries, he added.
